# AC Remote — Full Reference

> AC Remote is an iOS app that turns any air conditioner into a smart AC by
> sending infrared or WiFi commands from an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch.

## Positioning
AC Remote helps anyone who has lost, broken, or wants to upgrade their air
conditioner remote control. It works with 300+ AC brands across three connection
methods: IR adapter dongle, WiFi IR hub, or direct WiFi to smart ACs. The app
is privacy-first (zero data collection) and localized in 38 languages.

## Connection methods in detail

### 1. USB-C IR adapter dongle ($5-10)
A small infrared transmitter that plugs into the iPhone's USB-C port. The phone
becomes a line-of-sight remote control — point at the AC and tap buttons. No
WiFi or internet required. Works with any AC that has an infrared receiver (which
is nearly all of them).

### 2. WiFi IR hub
A device like BroadLink RM4 Mini or a Tuya/Smart Life compatible hub, placed
near the AC with line-of-sight. The hub receives commands over WiFi and re-emits
them as infrared. Enables remote control from anywhere — even outside the house.
Supports IR Learning: capture codes from your original remote to support any AC.

### 3. Direct WiFi to smart ACs
Some AC units have built-in WiFi. AC Remote connects to them directly:
- **Local network control (no cloud, no account):** Daikin, Gree, Midea, AUX,

- **Via maker's cloud service:** Samsung (SmartThings), Panasonic (Comfort

### 4. HomeKit

Power on/off, temperature (°C and °F), mode (cool, heat, dry, fan, auto),
fan speed (auto, low, medium, high, turbo), swing direction (horizontal and
vertical), sleep timer (1-12 hours), turbo/quiet modes where the AC supports
them.
